SCUBA observations of Hawaii 167

چکیده
We present the first submillimetre observations of the z=2.36 broad absorption line system Hawaii 167. Our observations confirm the hypothesis that Hawaii 167 contains a massive quantity of dust, the optical depth of which is sufficient to completely extinguish our ultraviolet view of a central, buried quasar. Hawaii 167’s submillimetre luminosity and associated dust mass are similar to the ultraluminous class of infrared galaxies, supporting the existence of an evolutionary link between these and the active galaxy population. Hawaii 167 appears to be a young quasar which is emerging from its dusty cocoon.

In this second paper of the Hawaii SCUBA-2 Lensing Cluster Survey series, we cross-match SCUBA-2 maps with 3 and 6 GHz images from the Janksy-VLA Frontier Fields Legacy Survey for three cluster fields, MACS J0416.1–2403, MACS J0717.5+3745, and MACS J1149.5+2223. Within the HST coverage, 14 out of 44 850 μm sources have 3 GHz counterparts, five of which are also detected at 6 GHz. The 850 μm flu...
متن کاملRemoving sky contributions from SCUBA data
The Submillimetre Common-User Bolometer Array (SCUBA) is a new continuum camera operating on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) on Mauna Kea, Hawaii. It consists of two arrays of bolometric detectors; a 91 pixel 350/450 micron array and a 37 pixel 750/850 micron array. Both arrays can be used simultaneously and have a field-of-view of approximately 2.4 arcminutes in diameter on the sky. I...

We review published deep surveys in the submillimeter (sub-mm) regime from the new Sub-millimetre Common User Bolometer Array (SCUBA, [1]) on the 15-m James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT), Mauna Kea, Hawaii. Summarising the number counts of faint sub-mm sources determined from the different surveys we show that the deepest counts from our completed SCUBA Lens Survey, down to 0.5mJy at 850μm, fu...
متن کاملAge associated risks of recreational scuba diving.
The effect of aging on risk for development of decompression illness in divers has often been reported as an incidental finding in epidemiological analyses of diving accidents. No previous publications have specifically attempted to quantify or qualify those risks if present. This study demonstrates that aging increases risk for injury overall, serious injury in particular, and lessens recovery...
